5) The carbon-fuelled growth of developed countries has disproportionately contributed to the acceleration of climate change. The Report of the Conference of the Parties on its thirteenth session, held in Bali in December 2007 recognized that deep cuts in global emissions will be required to achieve the ultimate objective of the Convention and that there is a crucial need to accelerate innovation in the development, deployment, adoption, diffusion and transfer of environmentally sound technologies among all Parties and particularly from developed to developing countries, for both mitigation and adaptation.
