Climate change is a growing global crisis with severe environmental, economic and social impacts and probably the most critical challenge facing the world today.

In December 2009, nearly 200 nations are going to negotiate a new international climate change agreement that will determine climate change policies after 2012. This climate deal is expected to set emission targets to mitigate climate change and create an international support system to enable adaptation to current and predicted impacts.

The Climate Vision initiative has been initiated by Practical Action
as part of the Climate Action Network South Asia (CANSA) to facilitate civil society networking and start a civil society vision finding process to support and inform Sri Lanka’s negotiating position at the Copenhagen COP 15 climate change talks in December 2009.

The vision finding process involves a stakeholder survey/questionnaire,
which feeds into both this website and an initial Climate Vision workshop on the 17th September. Civil society organisations participating in the workshop will discuss a common vision for the Copenhagen agreement. The outcomes of the workshop will be shared with Sri Lanka’s negotiating team at Copenhagen.

The Climate Action Network South Asia's (CANSA) mission is to support and empower civil society organisations to influence the design and development of an effective global strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and ensure its implementation at international, national and local levels in the promotion of equity and sustainable development.

Practical Action, a member of CANSA, has been working in Sri Lanka for over 20 years. Its vision of a sustainable world free of poverty and injustice in which technology is used for the benefit of all. As such Practical Action promotes appropriate technologies and knowledge for Climate Change adaptation and mitigation.
